Conventions

The science fiction and fantasy genre community—both here in the UK and in North America—has long had the tradition of holding volunteer-run fan conventions where fans of the genre can get together and discuss their favourite works. They very closely resemble conferences, where there are panels, talks, presentations and other such programme items, as well as workshops and activities, academic tracks, and networking opportunities.

Some of the most famous of these are Worldcon, Fantasy Con, and Eastercon, among others, and in the last decade or so they have evolved to include more writing craft and industry related programming and activities. They can be a great place to meet fellow fans and creators of SFF stories, and to network with other writers and sometimes agents and publishers.

Members of our group attend various SFF literary and fan conventions in the UK and abroad each year, and are often featured on programme items such as panels, talks, workshops, and readings. We love showing up to support each other, and promoting the group (especially in the UK cons) by having a strong presence whenever we can.
