Attendance & Ticketing Policy

Last updated: 10th October 2025

Ticketed Events Terms & Conditions

Our Special Events, such as speaker evenings, contest award nights, and the occasional social outing, are ticketed. In-house events tend to be priced between £5-10, and outings will include a ticket to the cinema or theatre, or entry to whatever activity we have planned.

  • Tickets are sold on our website until 1 hour before the event start time and are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances.
  • Payment is taken via Stripe, which accepts all credit & debit cards, or PayPal. Platform processing fees are added on top of the ticket price.
  • Monthly Ko-fi supporters get a discount code for our ticketed events.
  • Where there may be a deadline to book tickets (eg. for a theatre group booking, a cinema trip, etc), this will be made clear on the event page and any relevant announcement spaces, such as the Discord or our newsletter.
  • No refunds will be issued if you miss an event; your ticket price will be considered a donation to the group.

Free Events Attendance Policy

Our core activities (Critique Meetings, Write Togethers, etc) are always free to register for and attend. However, we ask that you respect the below policy when registering to attend an event, in order to continue ensuring the long-term success of the group.

Failure to comply with these terms on more than two occasions will incur penalties (see below).

  • When you register to attend an event, you are committing to attending it. A registration is not a soft pencil, or a ‘Maybe’, even if the event is free.
    • For Critique Meetings, you are also committing to reading the entries scheduled to be critiqued at that meeting ahead of time (which will be listed on the Next Critique Sessions page under the event date), in order to prepare your feedback. Please see the Critiques page to familiarise yourself with our meeting format, and ensure you are downloading the correct stories.
  • You can update your registration/un-register via the link in your confirmation email, or by requesting a new link through the specific event page. You must be logged in to request this link.
    • For Critique Meetings, you have until 2 hours before the meeting start time to update your registration. Late changes will be marked as such by the Organisers and may result in penalties if there is a pattern of dropping out of several meetings at the last minute. This applies for both in-person and online critiques.
    • For Write Togethers, you have until 1 hour before the meeting start time to update your registration for in-person meetings, or 30 minutes for online meetings.

No-Shows & Penalties

  1. If you register to attend a free event but do not show up (and also do not let any Organiser know in advance), a No-Show will be marked on your record.
  2. After two No-Shows, one of the Organisers will get in touch to find out why you have not been keeping your Registration up-to-date, and we’ll have a conversation to see if there is anything we can do to support you. At that point your membership status will depend on any further non-attendance.
  3. If the pattern persists, we may have to restrict your ability to submit stories for critiques (if you are a Full Member), essentially revoking your Full Membership until you have attended at least 2 more critique meetings and providing feedback, or even suspend your membership if you are new. Suspended members can still come back, but there will be a longer road to Full Membership.

We have never had to ban any members due to non-attendance and do not expect we’ll have to, as the community is very engaged; however, we will revisit these T&Cs as necessary and adjust them if there is a need to.

Late changes (after the cut-off point specified above) will also be noted. If there is a persistent pattern in dropping off from events at the last minute, a similar discussion to the above will take place, but we will not suspend or revoke your membership until there are at least 2 No-Shows on your record.

If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please speak to an Organiser at your next event, on Discord, or contact us by email.
