Author Notes:

This is the prologue to a dark fantasy book draft I’m currently re-writing. I re-wrote it based on the feedback I received from an editorial assessment, which stated that I needed to focus on characters readers could connect on an emotional level. I’m also wary of infodumps (given I do love infodumps in my reading), and have tried to keep it to the minimum required for world-building. I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether I’m managing to do so, and any other feedback you may have.
