Scione: Capital of the Depraved by Mirko Vintar
Word Count: 4725 words | Critique type preference: In Person
Content warnings:
Blood, Child sexual abuse, Death/Dying, Disregard for personal autonomy (kidnapping / enslavement / abduction), Mental Disorders, Self-harming Behaviors, Slurs, Violence (gratuitous / extreme)
Author Notes:
These are the first two chapters from a novel which is part of a longer series. It is a rather dark and violent story, as you can tell from the number of trigger warnings. There is torture and mutilation in the first chapter. The second chapter should be without TWs.
1. Did anything confuse you? As the plot drops the reader in the middle of a scene and doesn’t elaborate much, a lot of information is withheld from the reader.
2. How did you find the pacing? Were there any portions that felt slow? Looking at the church chapter in particular.
3. Nashli is a little bit insane and a loose cannon – could you still relate to them?
4. Which questions do you want to get answered in this book? Where do you expect the story to go?
5. Do you already get an idea of the themes that will be revolving around the book? Please let me know if there are any words, sayings, or phrases which do not perfectly fit into the context. As a non-native speaker, I am often not aware of them.
Notes to organisers:
If possible and nobody else has submitted their pieces, I’d like to have this work critiqued at the next in-person meeting.
